ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Education introduced the Pink Bus Service for female students and teachers in the Federal Capital City of Islamabad.
As per a statement released by the ministry, the pink buses will be accessible to female students and teachers at Islamabad’s bus stop starting August 7, 2024.
The Ministry of Education stated that the service is being launched under the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz and will operate on all major routes of the capital city.
“The aim of this initiative is to empower girls’ education and women in Islamabad by linking rural areas to urban centers and facilitating safe and easy travel for them,” the statement read.
The Ministry of Education highlighted that the pink bus service will provide free, safe, and easy rides for female students and teachers; they will regularly check and review the service to make sure it works well
Earlier, the Secretary of Education stated that the Ministry of Education took this step due to the lack of adequate transportation facilities, particularly for women and girls.
The secretary said that the ministry identified 30 percent of the total 385 buses that are currently not in use for various reasons, including a lack of budget, drivers, and timely maintenance.
He said that those buses will be repaired and made operational by June 15 and will begin providing free transportation services to female teachers and students.
It should be noted that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) launched an electric bus service for Islamabad residents.
