ISLAMABAD: Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, the Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, declared ‘substantial’ relief for government workers, with a boost in their salaries of up to 25 percent in the 2024-25 budget, As per media report.
On the floor of the National Assembly, while unveiling the budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, the finance minister outlined the government’s plan to elevate salaries by 25 percent for employees in grades 1-16 and a 20 percent hike for those in grades 17-22.
Within the budget, the finance minister additionally suggested a 15 percent augmentation in pensions for retired employees. Moreover, the minimum monthly wage for workers has been elevated from Rs 32,000 to Rs 37,000.
Muhammad Aurangzaib stated that notwithstanding financial challenges, the government recognizes the difficulties encountered by its employees and has implemented measures to alleviate them.
In the budget speech, the finance minister stated that the purchasing power of the people has been affected due to inflation. The salaried class is particularly affected by this. This is the reason why the government acknowledges the difficulties of government employees despite their financial challenges and is implementing relief measures for them.
Moreover, a pension fund would be created to manage the liability, Aurangzeb added.
Muhammad Aurangzeb proposed a 20-25% increase in the salaries on ad-hoc basis and 15% enhancement in the pensions of the federal government employees, realising their financial hardships due to the increased inflation.
The minister said despite financial constraints, the government had decided to give 25% ad-hoc relief in the salaries of employees from Grade 1-16 and 20% to Grade-17-22 employees aimed at increasing their purchase power.
