ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif introduced the Shuhada Package on Thursday, aimed at aiding the families of federal government officials who have been martyred while on duty.
The package includes financial assistance, housing allowances, as well as provisions for free education and medical care.
During his visit to the family of late Customs Inspector Syed Hasnain Ali Tirmizi, who was recently martyred in a firing incident in Dera Ismail Khan, the Prime Minister presented a cheque from the Shuhada Package to the grieving family.
He assured them of the government’s full commitment to ensuring the security of customs officials working to combat smuggling in the country.
The Prime Minister expressed condolences to the bereaved family and highlighted that the Shuhada Package, initially announced by the Punjab government, has now been extended to cover federal government employees, with potential revisions based on the country’s financial situation.
The package provides Rs 10 million cash assistance and Rs 13.5 million housing allowance for the family of a martyred sepoy, along with free education and medical treatment.
For the family of a martyred customs inspector, it offers Rs 15 million cash assistance and Rs 25 million housing allowance, alongside educational and medical benefits. This package also encompasses civilian officials, police, and law enforcement agencies.
During interactions with the family members, the Prime Minister expressed compassion towards the orphaned children, referring to them as the offspring of a hero and their father as a hero of whom the entire nation is proud. He praised the late customs inspector for his sacrifice in combating smuggling and safeguarding the national economy.
The Prime Minister also commended the dedication of the martyred customs inspector’s father and informed him about the government’s ongoing efforts to combat smuggling.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration between federal and provincial institutions, along with the support from the army and law enforcement agencies, in curbing smuggling activities.
In conclusion, the Prime Minister thanked various entities for their support in the government’s efforts against smuggling and urged collective action to tackle this common enemy, emphasizing its significance for the national economy and the country’s prosperity.
The father of the martyred Customs Inspector expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for his visit and sympathies, highlighting his son’s pride in serving the nation.
