ISLAMABAD: Electricity distribution companies have prepared to increase the security fee for electricity connections for domestic consumers from Rs. 1220 to Rs. 18,000.
According to sources in the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), the distribution companies have requested a significant increase in the connection fee, under which consumers will have to pay Rs. 20,000. Consumers will have to pay up to Rs. 24,000 to get a connection on a phase meter.
In rural areas, there has been a request to increase the security fee from Rs. 610 to Rs. 7800 per kilowatt. Consumers will have to pay one percent of the property rate for houses of more than 10 marlas.
According to NEPRA sources, an extraordinary increase in security fees has also been proposed for industrial consumers, streetlights, and housing societies. Under this proposal, the fee for commercial and small industries has been requested to be increased from Rs. 2010 to Rs. 57,000 per kilowatt.
It has been learned that the Ministry of Power Division has decided to increase the security fee according to the bills of 3 months, but the final decision will be taken after the hearing in NEPRA.
