On the other hand, there is a possibility that the basic electricity tariff across the country may also be reduced for the next financial year. Sources say that the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request to NEPRA for a reduction in power purchase rates. NEPRA is expected to hold a hearing on this request on May 15.
According to sources, electricity consumers may get relief worth Rs140 billion to Rs400 billion in the upcoming financial year. In a recent statement, the Prime Minister said that a free market will be established for electricity production, which will help reduce prices further and provide major relief to the public. These steps have raised hopes for more reductions in electricity rates in the future.
