Rizvi’s assumption of office occurred 22 days post the issuance of his appointment notification, amidst an ongoing disagreement regarding his appointment between the interior ministry and Punjab.

Following the departure of former IG Police Akbar Nasir Khan on March 30, Rizvi has succeeded him, with the Punjab government formally relieving him of his duties.

Having previously served as the deputy inspector general of operations in Lahore, Rizvi hails from the 31st Common batch of the PSP.

His extensive experience includes roles such as assistant superintendent of police, superintendent of police, senior superintendent of police, city police chief, and deputy inspector general across nine Punjab districts. Additionally, he has also served in Balochistan.
