LAHORE: The central consultative council of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) unanimously rejected the resignation submitted by party Emir Sirajul Haq from his position as its head on Saturday.

According to JI spokesperson Qaiser Sharif, the council declined the resignation and reiterated its “full confidence” in Siraj. He further stated that Siraj would continue fulfilling his duties in accordance with the party’s constitution.

Qaiser mentioned that Siraj is scheduled to address the central consultative council’s meeting shortly and will hold a press conference later in the day.

He added that the JI attributed its lack of success in the elections not to Siraj’s leadership but to electoral malpractices, emphasizing that the party contested the February 8 poll outcomes and demanded the immediate resignation of the chief election commissioner.

Following the disappointing results of the February 8 general elections, where the JI did not make any significant electoral advancements, Siraj declared his intention to resign from his party position on February 12.

Although the politico-religious party led by Siraj failed to secure any National Assembly seats, it did manage to secure five provincial seats.
