The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has taken action against a significant number of housing societies in the Rawalpindi city area, branding 336 out of 484 as unauthorized.

In a comprehensive operation, authorities have cracked down on these societies, leading to the apprehension of the proprietors of eight such entities.

These unapproved societies encompass a large population, with many residents unaware that the plots or homes they invested substantial sums in belong to these illicit societies.

The list of illegal societies flagged by the RDA includes several prominent ones such as Rafi Block of Bahria Town in Takhtpadi, Bahria Town Phase 9 and Phase 8 on Adiala Road, Bahria Town in Kaler Syedan Rawat, National Police Foundation Cooperative Housing Society in Rawat, Haram City on Chakri Road, Phase 2, Blue World City in Thalian Katarian, Lawyers Town in Chaklala, Gulrez Housing Scheme in Kotha Kalan, Airport Town in Thalian, OGDCL Employees Cooperative Society in Dhagal, Khayaban Quaid in Adiala, Chakri Rawal Town located on the road, Defense View located in Kalyal, Bahria Town located in Dhagal, Palm City located in Chaklala, and Fazal Town, among others.

According to Saif Anwar Jappa, the Director-General of Rawalpindi Development Authority, Rawalpindi and its environs are home to 484 housing societies. Of these, 336 have been identified as illegal, while the registration of 79 housing societies is still pending with the RDA. Shockingly, only 69 of them are operating within the bounds of the law.

The DGRDA has revealed that a dedicated task force has been assembled to confront these unlawful housing societies. This task force has successfully dismantled illegal structures in 40 such schemes, and 11 offices associated with these societies have also been razed to the ground. Furthermore, legal actions have been taken, with 80 cases filed against the proprietors of these societies across various police stations. An additional measure includes a formal request to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to halt the promotion of these illegal housing societies on social media platforms.
