PESHAWAR: The transgender women of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been incorporated into the Benazir Income Support Program, with the federal minister providing cash to the first transgender woman.
This move was initiated by the Federal Minister of State for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Faisal Karim Kundi, who also expanded the program’s coverage to include impoverished women in the region.
Notably, the first transgender woman, Jahanzeb, also known as Almas, has been officially registered in the program, marking a milestone in the recognition and support of the transgender community. To ensure financial assistance for the marginalized, even poor transgender individuals will be eligible to receive cash grants of 8500 to 9000 rupees every three months.
In a symbolic gesture of this program’s implementation, Faisal Karim Kundi personally handed over the cash to Jahanzeb alias Almas in Dera Ismail Khan, reflecting the government’s commitment to uplifting the vulnerable communities in the region.
