RAWALPINDI: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has granted approval for the construction of Kulsoom Nawaz Hospital to deliver international-standard healthcare and medical services to the residents of Rawalpindi Cantt.
A private TV channel said the hospital will be on a 36-kanal piece of land where the old GTS terminal used to be, near Chohar Chowk. It will have 3,000 beds, including a special area for heart patients.
A plan for this big project is ready, and building should start this year. The money for it will come from the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).
When finished, the hospital will help people in Rawalpindi and nearby places like Taxila, Attock, Haripur, Fateh Jang, Tarnol, and Hassan Abdal.
National Assembly member Malik Ibra and Provincial Assembly member Malik Iftikhar said leaders Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif want to make Rawalpindi a better city.
They told the private TV channel, “Rawalpindi has many Nawaz Sharif supporters. We want to help the people. This hospital is the start of more development here.”

They also said extra money will be given for the project, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will start the building work.
In other news, Punjab has started its first Talent Hunt Programme to find and support young athletes in the province, according to a media reports.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz asked for a full plan for the Punjab Talent Hunt Programme. It will give young people, including women, a chance to show their skills.
She said, “We will make sure young athletes in Punjab get chances to show their talent. Women athletes will have the same opportunities.”
A youth internship programme was also approved in principle, and Maryam Nawaz told departments to make a detailed plan. She also told the Sports Department to work on managing its own money and to pay its employees on time.
