Sindh to introduce electric buses in major cities after Karachi

KARACHI : The Sindh government is speeding up efforts to launch electric bus services in major cities of the province after its successful start in Karachi.

A high-level delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) met Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon in Karachi to discuss possible investment in the province’s fast-growing transport sector.

Sindh Transport Secretary Asad Zamin and Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Kamal Dayo also attended the meeting.

The ADB delegation expressed interest in investing to improve the public transport system in Sindh. Sharjeel Memon welcomed the delegation and praised ADB’s role in supporting the province’s development.

He said the Sindh government welcomes ADB’s interest in the transport sector and is committed to bringing major improvements in public transport. “Sustainable transport is a top priority for us,” he added.

Sharjeel Memon said Pakistan’s first electric bus service has already been launched in Karachi and has received a strong positive response from the public. “The future of urban transport lies in clean energy and modern technology. We are providing Sindh’s people with modern, affordable, and eco-friendly travel options,” he said. “With ADB’s support, we can speed up our transport projects.”

The senior minister added that the government aims to expand the electric bus network to other major cities in Sindh. He said the provincial government is ready to provide full support to ensure fast and transparent implementation of these projects.
