LAHORE – The Lahore Traffic Police has launched a strict campaign against the top 1000 vehicles that have not paid their e-challans. For the first time, government vehicles will also face action if their e-challans remain unpaid.
According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Dr. Athar Wahid, 12 special recovery teams have been formed. These teams are using Safe City data to track down defaulter vehicles across the city. Fines are being collected on the spot.
So far, more than 300 vehicles have been caught during the campaign. In a surprising case, a motorbike was found with 313 unpaid e-challans. The total fine had reached Rs. 335,300.
CTO Lahore also revealed that several government vehicles are on the defaulters’ list. A separate list of these vehicles has been prepared, and action against them will begin soon.
73 government departments in Lahore listed as e-challan defaulters
The CTO also shared that 73 government departments have a total of 3,896 vehicles with unpaid e-challans. A list of these vehicles has been prepared, and detailed reports are being sent to the relevant departments. Letters have also been sent to these departments, asking them to pay the pending fines. Government vehicles, including those belonging to police departments, are among the top defaulters.

On the other hand, in Karachi, a large-scale crackdown is underway against traffic law violations. Traffic police have taken thousands of vehicles into custody, including unregistered, unfit, and illegally modified vehicles.

According to the traffic police spokesperson, strict checking is being carried out at various points across the city. Action is being taken against fancy number plates, tinted windows, motorcyclists without helmets, and vehicles with substandard gas cylinders.
During the crackdown, 49,406 motorbikes were seized. Action was taken against 4,568 vehicles for fancy number plates and other violations. A total of 676 heavy and light vehicles were released only after special permission from the Transport Department.
Fitness certificates of 139 unfit vehicles were suspended. Police said seized motorbikes will only be returned to citizens who present a valid driving license and helmet. Unsafe vehicles will only be released after getting clearance from the Transport Department.
As per the Karachi Commissioner’s orders, rickshaws with extra passenger seats have been banned from April 15 to June 14. During this time, 15,305 challans were issued, and 138 FIRs were registered.
