Punjab sets up cattle markets for Eid with over 4,000 police deployed

LAHORE: With Eid-ul-Azha 2025 approaching, cattle markets have been set up across Punjab, and police have completed foolproof security arrangements.

According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, more than 4,000 officers and personnel have been deployed at 230 cattle markets in the province.

In Lahore, 1,000 police officers and jawans have been assigned to secure 11 markets. Punjab IG Dr. Usman Anwar said a strong and effective security plan has been made to protect traders and citizens.

The IG directed that no market should be allowed without permission from the district administration. He also ordered strict action against illegal markets and sale points.

To protect people from pickpockets and criminals, a special patrolling plan has been launched. According to police, 284 patrolling teams — including Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit, and other forces — will patrol around the markets.

Here is the breakdown of security arrangements in different regions:

  • Sheikhupura Region: 26 markets, 200 personnel

  • Gujranwala Region: 41 markets, 600 personnel

  • Rawalpindi Region: 15 markets, over 250 personnel

  • Sargodha Region: 24 markets, 200 personnel

  • Faisalabad Region: 19 markets, over 600 personnel

  • Multan Region: 26 markets, over 400 personnel

  • Sahiwal Region: 11 markets, over 200 personnel

  • Bahawalpur Region: 35 markets, over 300 personnel

  • D.G. Khan Region: 22 markets, over 200 personnel

The IG Punjab has instructed all regional police officers to fully implement the security plan and take all steps to make shopping easy and safe for the public.

6 cattle markets established in Lahore

Meanwhile, in Lahore, the district administration has decided to set up one permanent and five temporary cattle markets for Eid. A notification has been issued by Deputy Commissioner Lahore.

According to the notification, a total of six cattle markets will be set up this year in the city. The permanent market will be held at the traditional location in Shahpur Kanjran, where large-scale buying and selling of animals takes place every year.

The five temporary markets will be set up in the tehsils of Wahga, Nishtar, Ravi, Cantt, and Raiwind.

Administration is making efforts to provide good facilities, manage traffic, keep the city clean, and ensure security.

As per the report People and animal sellers are requested to use only the approved markets for buying and selling animals to avoid traffic problems and cleanliness issues in the city.
