Judicial Commission approves appointment of 10 additional judges for Peshawar High Court

Islamabad: The Judicial Commission, led by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, has approved the appointment of 10 additional judges for the Peshawar High Court. The decision was made during a meeting at the Supreme Court, where 40 candidates were reviewed. After discussions, the commission finalized 10 names for appointment.

A meeting of the Judicial Commission, chaired by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, was held at the Supreme Court. The commission discussed the appointment of additional judges for the Peshawar High Court. After detailed deliberation, approval was given for 10 additional judges.

According to sources, the agenda initially included the appointment of nine judges. However, the Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court requested the approval of 10 judges. Three members of the commission opposed this additional appointment. A total of 40 names were considered, out of which 10 were finalized.

The approved judges include District and Sessions Judges Farah Jamshed and Inamullah Khan. The other eight approved names are Muhammad Tariq Afridi, Abdul Fayaz, Sibghatullah Khan, Salahuddin, Sadiq Ali, Mudassir Ameer, Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Qazi Jawad Ihsanullah.

Meanwhile, judges of the Islamabad High Court had written a letter to the President and Chief Justice a day earlier. They opposed the appointment of a judge from another high court as the Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court. They urged that one of the three senior judges from the Islamabad High Court should be appointed instead.
