Islamabad: The Teachers Panel secured victory in the annual election of the International Islamic University’s (IIU) Academic Staff Association. They obtained 241 votes, surpassing The Academicians, the runner-up panel, who garnered 153 votes. The margin of victory for The Teachers Panel was 88 votes.
In the election results, Prof. Dr. Tariq Javed from the Faculty of Science has been elected as the President of the association, while Dr. Faizur Raheem from the International Institute of Islamic Economics will serve as the Secretary General.
Dr. Abid Masood from the Faculty of Languages & Literature and Dr. Ambreen Abbasi from the Faculty of Shariah & Law have been elected as Vice Presidents for the Male and Female Campuses respectively. Other elected positions include Dr. Muhammad Imran as Joint Secretary (Male), Ms. Kiran Kiani as Joint Secretary (Female), Dr. Ahmad Hammad as Secretary Finance, Mr. Ihsan Malik as Secretary Information (Male), and Dr. Sumera Saghir Ahmad as Secretary Info (Female).
Expressing gratitude to the IIU academic community for their overwhelming support, the newly elected President, Prof. Dr. Tariq Javed, pledged his full dedication to addressing all outstanding issues within his constituency. He extended thanks to the members of his previous team who supported him, particularly those transitioning out of their roles this term, such as Prof. Dr. Naveeda Riaz, Dr. Habib ur Rehman, Dr. Asad Ghufran, and Dr. Asma Rashid.
Notably, in the previous year’s election in 2023, the same panels contested, with the Teachers Panel securing victory with a 59-vote lead. This year’s wider margin of 88 votes reflects the IIU community’s confidence in the Teachers Panel’s leadership and a desire for continuity in the policies of the previous year.
