ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar went to Beijing on Monday to co-chair the 5th Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue, according to the Foreign Office (FO).
Upon his arrival, Ambassador Wang Fu Kang and Pakistan’s envoy to China Ambassador Dr Khalil Hashmi greeted Dar, as per the FO’s post on X.
Dar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi will co-chair the dialogue, discussing various aspects of Pakistan-China relations.
During his visit, Dar will meet with Chinese leaders, senior officials, and prominent business enterprises.
The FO had previously announced Dar’s four-day trip from May 13 to May 16, during which both countries will review bilateral affairs, including economic and trade cooperation, high-level exchanges, and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Discussions will also cover the regional geopolitical landscape and bilateral cooperation in multilateral forums.
The visit underscores the importance both nations place on strengthening their strategic partnership, supporting each other on core issues, enhancing economic cooperation, and promoting regional peace and development.
This is Dar’s first visit to Beijing since the PML-N-led government took office after the February 8 general elections.
The visit follows Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal’s recent trip to China to engage existing investors, financial institutions, and expand involvement in CPEC’s second phase.
Earlier, Dar met with Zheng Jianbang, the vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, during the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation summit in The Gambia, where both nations expressed their commitment to enhancing cooperation on CPEC projects.
