ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has decided to increase fees for driving licenses, introducing additional service charges of up to Rs800. These charges will be collected in cash and utilized for the welfare of the department.

Currently, the fee for a license stands at Rs2,400. However, with the introduction of new charges, including the optional road test fee, the total fees could increase by up to 33 percent.

The revised charges include a Rs200 medical fee and an optional Rs2,000 fast-track processing fee. Road test fees vary from Rs200 for motor cars to Rs500 for heavy-traffic vehicles. Additionally, a Rs200 fee has been introduced for road safety education sessions.

Furthermore, obtaining a driving license No-Objection Certificate (NOC) will now cost Rs1,000. This certificate is required when transferring the license issuing authority.

The community driving school fees have also been increased to Rs12,000 for motor cars, Rs18,000 for Light Traffic Vehicles (LTV), and Rs25,000 for Heavy Traffic Vehicles (HTV). Additionally, a Rs200 mobile facilitation fee has been introduced for the “license on wheels” service.

New Driving License Fees and Service Charges:

Service Fee
Medical Fee Rs200
Fast-Track Processing Fee Rs2,000 (optional)
Road Test Fee (Motor Cars) Rs200
Road Test Fee (Light Traffic Vehicles) Rs300
Road Test Fee (Heavy Traffic Vehicles) Rs500
Road Safety Education Session Rs200
Driving License NOC Rs1,000
Community Driving School Fee (Motor Cars) Rs12,000
Community Driving School Fee (LTV) Rs18,000
Community Driving School Fee (HTV) Rs25,000
Mobile Facilitation Fee (License on Wheels) Rs200

These changes were implemented following the recommendation of the Police Executive Board and will be deposited into the welfare account of the ITP.

However, legal experts and police officers have raised concerns about the legality of these charges, suggesting that only the federal government has the authority to make such decisions under relevant laws.
