RAWALPINDI:  In response to the May 9 tragedy, the Pakistan Army has taken disciplinary action against several officers, including the dismissal of three officers, one of whom was a lieutenant general.

The Army spokesperson, Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, announced this during a press conference, stating that two internal inquiries were conducted, leading to a thorough investigation and subsequent decisions.

According to Major General Chaudhry, the Army and its leadership are fully aware of the events that occurred on May 9, and they have a system of self-accountability in place. Currently, 102 individuals involved in the incidents are undergoing trial in military courts.

The spokesperson emphasized that all those responsible for planning and facilitating the May 9 events, regardless of their affiliation, will be punished according to the Constitution and the law of Pakistan. Furthermore, strict actions will be taken against anyone obstructing the course of justice.

Based on undeniable evidence, individuals held accountable include the granddaughter of a retired four-star general, the son-in-law of another retired four-star general, the wife of a retired three-star general, and the wife and son-in-law of a retired two-star general.

The investigation revealed that the planning for the May 9 events had been ongoing for several months, during which an atmosphere of anxiety was deliberately created, followed by the incitement of public sentiment and subsequent acts of violence.

The Army spokesperson described the May 9 tragedy as a dark chapter in Pakistan’s history, surpassing what the country’s enemies had failed to achieve in 75 years in just one day. He expressed deep anger within the Pakistan Army regarding these events, emphasizing that they were part of a significant conspiracy against the nation. False narratives were disseminated through social media platforms, further exacerbating the situation.
