RAWALPINDI: A soldier of the Balochistan Frontier Corps was martyred while four terrorists were killed as security forces thwarted an attack on a naval base in Turbat last night, as per the military’s media affairs wing statement on Tuesday.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that terrorists attempted to attack PNS Siddique in Turbat last night, which was foiled due to the swift and effective response by the troops, ensuring the safety and security of personnel and assets.

The ISPR mentioned that security forces in the vicinity were immediately mobilized to support the naval troops. The joint clearance operation led to the killing of all four terrorists.

During the intense exchange of fire, 24-year-old Sepoy Noman Fareed of the Balochistan Frontier Corps embraced martyrdom.

Makran Commissioner Saeed Ahmed Umrani had earlier reported heavy exchange of fire and explosions near Turbat airport on Monday night.

PNS Siddique is among the biggest naval air stations in the country.

Locals reported over a dozen blasts in Turbat town, while firing continued late into the night.

The banned Balochistan Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the attack.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended security forces for foiling the terrorist attack, acknowledging the timely and effective action that prevented significant loss.

He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and expressed full support for the courageous security forces.

Pakistan has witnessed increased terror activities, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the banned militant Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022.

The Turbat incident occurred days after security forces thwarted a militant attack on the Gwadar Port Authority Complex, resulting in the martyrdom of two soldiers and the killing of eight terrorists.

In November, 14 Pakistan Army soldiers were martyred in a militant attack in Gwadar.

According to a security report issued last month, Pakistan experienced 97 militant attacks in February, resulting in 87 fatalities and 118 injuries, with Balochistan experiencing a significant escalation in violence.
