RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Army expressed disappointment on Tuesday regarding certain sections of the political sphere and media, particularly on social media platforms, for unfairly criticizing the armed forces with baseless accusations of interference, describing such claims as “extremely regrettable”.
During the 263rd Corps Commanders’ Conference (CCC) at GHQ, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir chaired the meeting, where the military’s media wing conveyed the army’s concerns.
Inter-Services Public Relations, quoting senior army officials, stated that the CCC acknowledged the forces’ significant efforts to ensure a secure environment for the GE-24 elections as per their mandated role, asserting no involvement in the electoral process.
“However, the forum expressed dismay that some vested small segments of polity and media, especially on social media, have been maligning the Armed Forces of Pakistan with unsubstantiated allegations of interference which is highly deplorable,” the statement added.
The top commanders highlighted that instead of addressing crucial issues like governance, economic revival, political stability, and public welfare, these vested interests are solely focused on creating political instability and uncertainty by unfairly blaming others for their own shortcomings, as stated by ISPR.
The military’s senior leadership also stressed the importance of adhering to due legal processes supported by evidence and proof, rather than resorting to unconstitutional and unwarranted baseless political rhetoric and emotional outbursts.
The corps commanders expressed satisfaction with the smooth democratic transition of power both at the central and provincial levels. They expressed hope that the post-election environment would bring about the desired political and economic stability, leading to peace and prosperity for the people of Pakistan.
Furthermore, they reiterated a strong belief in democratic consolidation as the path forward for the country, according to statements from the military’s media wing.
The top commanders affirmed that the military leadership is fully aware of the myriad challenges and threats facing the nation, and remains committed to fulfilling its constitutionally mandated responsibilities with the support of the resilient people of Pakistan.
Additionally, the military reiterated its commitment to providing full support to the government in combating security threats and promoting socioeconomic growth in the country. This includes wholehearted assistance in addressing illegal activities such as smuggling, hoarding, electricity theft, implementing the One Document Regime, and ensuring the respectable and safe repatriation of all illegal foreigners.
