QUETTA: Sarfraz Bugti was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Balochistan on Saturday afternoon.
Governor Abdul Wali Kakar administered the oath to Bugti at the Balochistan Assembly.
Bugti, representing the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), secured the support of 41 MPAs in the 65-member Balochistan Assembly. Abdul Majeed Badini from Jamat-e-Islami (JI) and Hidayatur Rehman from Haq do Tehreek voted in favor of Bugti, while JUI and the National Party abstained from voting.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and Faisal Karim Kundi.
Bugti had previously taken oath as a member of the National Assembly after resigning from the Senate. In December, he resigned from the federal cabinet and joined the PPP. He contested and won the election from PB-10 constituency in Dera Bugti.
Abdul Khaliq Achakzai of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has been elected as the speaker of the Balochistan Assembly, while PPP’s Ghazala Gola has assumed the position of deputy speaker.
