Nawaz Sharif Calls for Unity as PML-N, PPP Form Coalition Government
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), urged unity against challenges to guide the country through crises as a coalition government, mainly consisting of his party and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) led by Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, prepares to lead for the upcoming constitutional term.

Last week, the PML-N and the PPP formed a coalition government at the national level, citing the nation’s best interests and ending prolonged uncertainty post-elections, given no single political party secured a clear majority in the February 8 elections.

Speaking at a parliamentary party meeting today, Nawaz emphasized the importance of unity during challenging times, foreseeing a tough period of approximately 1.5 to 2 years ahead.

Describing Pakistan as “badly injured,” Nawaz stressed the necessity of making tough decisions to address the country’s issues, expressing hope for the resolution of difficulties.

He outlined the priorities of the incoming government, including alleviating inflation and stabilizing the local currency against the US dollar to provide relief to the public.

Nawaz commended his younger brother and party president Shehbaz Sharif for handling significant challenges during his brief tenure in power, asserting that Shehbaz Sharif is the best choice to lead in the current circumstances.

Formally declaring Shehbaz Sharif as the candidate for the prime minister’s position, Nawaz also announced that party leader Sardar Ayaz Sadiq would contest the election for the National Assembly speaker.
