Jemima Goldsmith and Sons Announce Support for PTI Ahead of General Elections
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

LONDON: Jailed ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan’s former wife, Jemima Goldsmith, along with their sons, Kasim Khan and Suleman Khan, declared their endorsement for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) candidates ahead of Pakistan’s general elections on February 8, as more than 128 million voters prepare to choose their representatives.

Kasim Khan, Imran Khan’s son, urged citizens via social media to vote for PTI, emphasizing the significance of their participation. His message, shared with the hashtag #votePTI, gained traction after Jemima Goldsmith retweeted it to her substantial following.

Tomorrow’s a huge day for Pakistan. Your vote is important. As soon as you’re able to, please post a photo or video saying “I voted PTI” with a hashtag #votePTI to show your support!

Kasim Khan’s tweets, in both Urdu and English, featured a photo of him and his brother Suleman holding PTI’s flag, encouraging support for PTI on February 8.

Jemima Goldsmith initially shared the same image, captioning it “Pakelection 8th February,” but later deleted her post from X (formerly Twitter). Nevertheless, her repost of Kasim Khan’s tweet remains visible on her timeline and has garnered significant attention.

Jemima and Kasim solely shared images of PTI flags, omitting the party’s iconic “bat” symbol, which PTI cannot use due to the Election Commission of Pakistan’s ruling. The ECP revoked PTI’s bat symbol on December 22 due to the party’s failure to conduct intra-party elections, rendering them ineligible for a symbol in the 2024 elections.

Previously, Jemima had denounced a fake X account created in her son’s name to support PTI’s election campaign. She urged her followers to report the fraudulent account, but it was later confirmed that Kasim Khan had indeed created a genuine account on the platform.

Despite Jemima’s earlier assertion of steering clear of politics, she finds herself inadvertently involved due to her sons’ actions. She had previously stated her desire to keep politics out of her life, emphasizing her avoidance of political discussions and engagements.

The author of the romantic comedy “What’s Love Got To Do With It” reiterated her stance, expressing her preference to remain apolitical and avoid entanglement in political disputes.
