ISLAMABAD: Polling for the 12th General Election of 2024 has begun nationwide, with voting scheduled to run continuously from 8 am to 5 pm, supported by enhanced security measures.
The Election Commission reports the participation of 17,816 candidates from across the country in 855 constituencies of the national and provincial assemblies, with several constituencies featuring prominent political figures.
The Election Commission data indicates that 128,585,760 voters are eligible to cast their ballots, including 23,518,371 new voters aged 25.
Voters are required to present their original identity cards at the polling station, with green ballot papers designated for the national assembly and white for the provincial assembly.
Nationwide, a total of 90,675 polling stations have been set up, including 27,628 sensitive and 18,437 highly sensitive ones. Approximately 500,000 security personnel will oversee polling stations, with paramilitary forces and the Pakistan Army providing backup support.
The delivery of polling materials, including ballot boxes and papers, was completed late at night under the supervision of police and law enforcement agencies.
Presiding officers at polling stations have been directed by the Election Commission to adhere strictly to the code of conduct. Furthermore, guidelines for completing and detailing Form 45 have been issued, stressing the importance of accuracy and the signatures of polling agents.
The Election Commission has imposed a ban on political activities within 400 meters of polling stations and on the display of party flags or materials endorsing or opposing candidates within 100 meters. Violations will be deemed illegal, with monitoring teams assigned to ensure compliance.
Additionally, the Election Commission has established a helpline number, 051111327000, for registering complaints related to the general elections. Complaints can be lodged at any time in anticipation of the elections.
