“We’ve reached a preliminary agreement for Sam to resume his role as CEO at OpenAI with a fresh board composition featuring Bret Taylor as Chair, along with Larry Summers and Adam D’Angelo,” stated the company in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

We have reached an agreement in principle for Sam Altman to return to OpenAI as CEO with a new initial board of Bret Taylor (Chair), Larry Summers, and Adam D’Angelo.

We are collaborating to figure out the details. Thank you so much for your patience through this.

Silicon Valley luminary Sam Altman was abruptly removed from his position at OpenAI, a leading force in artificial intelligence, only to swiftly join Microsoft.

Addressing the development on X, Altman expressed eagerness about returning to OpenAI.

“I cherish OpenAI, and all my recent actions have been aimed at keeping this team and its mission intact. When I made the decision to join Microsoft on Sunday evening, it became evident that was the optimal path for me and the team,” he conveyed in his post.

Altman further mentioned his anticipation of rejoining OpenAI with the support of Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella, and leveraging a robust partnership with the tech giant.

Microsoft’s Engagement with OpenAI :

Microsoft has maintained a partnership with OpenAI for seven years, injecting substantial funds into the startup and integrating its breakthroughs into Microsoft’s products.

The computational capabilities housed in Microsoft’s cloud data centers have played a pivotal role in training expansive language models, enabling the release of OpenAI’s ChatGPT to the public a year ago.

In return, Microsoft has integrated ChatGPT technology into its software offerings such as Word and Outlook, as well as into its Bing search engine, which has historically faced challenges competing with Google.

Despite its investments, Microsoft was unaware of the OpenAI board’s decision to dismiss Altman and remove co-founder Greg Brockman from the board on Friday.

The rationale behind this unexpected action remained unclear as of Tuesday, but some speculate it may relate to concerns that OpenAI was advancing too rapidly, deviating from its core mission of ensuring artificial intelligence serves the betterment of humanity.
