KARACHI: Karachi citizens can now park their vehicles for free on 46 major roads managed by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) starting from July 1st, 2025 (Tuesday).
Mayor Murtaza Wahab’s decision to waive parking fees, announced in February, is set to be formalized soon through an official notification.
An official confirmed that parking charges have been abolished on 46 out of the city’s 106 main roads under KMC’s jurisdiction. The remaining roads are either managed by other local bodies or are being considered for inclusion in the policy.
“We no longer need Rs40-50 million annually from parking fees. Our financial situation has improved significantly, with reserves stabilized, allowing us to implement such beneficial measures,” said the official.

While parking remains free on KMC roads, six cantonment boards in Karachi still enforce parking fees within their areas. The mayor warned against unauthorized fee collection on KMC-controlled roads.
Earlier, Sindh government directives have banned all vehicle parking on busy Karachi roads like II Chundrigar Road, from Shaheen Complex to Merewether Clock Tower, to ease traffic congestion.
Similar restrictions apply from Muhammad Bin Qasim Road to Dr. Ziauddin Road, including near SM Law College. Vehicles parked here or on adjacent footpaths will be immediately towed, and owners will face legal action.
Officials have designated Railway Ground as an alternative parking site. They also mentioned ongoing efforts to crack down on unregistered vehicles and those with non-standard number plates.
DIG Traffic assured that Karachi Traffic Police is actively enforcing these measures across the city.
