ISLAMABAD: The federal government has increased fuel prices once again, raising the price of petrol by Rs8.36 per litre and high-speed diesel by Rs10.39 per litre for the next 15 days.
According to a notification issued by the Finance Division on Tuesday, the new prices will come into effect from July 1, 2025. Petrol will now be sold at Rs266.79 per litre, up from Rs258.43, while diesel will cost Rs272.98 per litre, compared to the previous rate of Rs262.59.
The government said the price revision was based on recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and other relevant ministries.
In the previous review on June 15, petrol was increased by Rs4.80 per litre and diesel by Rs7.95 per litre.
Petrol is mostly used in private transport, smaller vehicles, rickshaws, and two-wheelers, which means the price hike directly affects the household budgets of middle- and lower-income groups.
High-speed diesel, on the other hand, powers most of the transport sector, including heavy vehicles, trains, and agricultural machinery such as tractors, tube wells, and threshers. Changes in its price are often linked to inflation trends.

An increase in diesel prices generally leads to a rise in the cost of vegetables and other essential food items, as they are transported from one region to another.
Product | Previous Price (Rs/litre) | Increase (Rs/litre) | New Price (Rs/litre) | Effective From |
---|---|---|---|---|
(MS) Petrol | 258.43 | 8.36 | 266.79 | July 1, 2025 |
High-Speed Diesel (HSD) | 262.59 | 10.39 | 272.98 | July 1, 2025 |
With the new budget also taking effect from July 1, inflation was already expected to rise due to new taxes and levies. The fresh hike in petroleum product prices is likely to add further pressure, especially on those living below the poverty line and the lower-middle and middle-income groups.
