RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has launched the second phase of the Clinic-on-Wheels initiative to provide healthcare services directly to people’s homes in Rawalpindi district.
A total of 25 vehicles were handed over to the District Health Authority. The event was attended by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema, local PML-N MNA Tahira Aurangzeb, and other officials.
Out of these vehicles, six are equipped for ultrasound services and 19 for dispensing medicines. Rawalpindi tehsil will receive five medicine vehicles, while Gujar Khan and Taxila will each get four vehicles. Additionally, Kahuta, Kotli Sattian, and Kallar Syedan will receive two vehicles each. One ultrasound vehicle has been allocated for each tehsil.
Each vehicle will be staffed with a doctor and a dispenser to provide medical treatment at people’s doorsteps. During the inspection, both the Deputy Commissioner and the MNA reviewed the medicines, emergency food supplies for malnutrition, and medical equipment available on these new vehicles.

They emphasized that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is dedicated to improving healthcare services and ensuring quality medical facilities for everyone. The Clinic-on-Wheels initiative aims to bring essential healthcare services directly to communities across Punjab, especially in underdeveloped areas.
Earlier, the second phase of the Clinic-on-Wheels initiative was formally launched by CM Maryam Nawaz in Lahore. She said the programme is designed to deliver free and equal healthcare to all citizens, regardless of their location or background.
The vehicles now include modern facilities such as air conditioning and mobile operation theatres. A total of 911 mobile clinic vehicles will begin operations across Punjab under the initiative. About 250 were deployed during the first phase.

The programme now aims to serve four million people in all districts of the province, providing basic treatment, diagnostic services, and medicines—up to two months’ supply for those in remote areas. In just a few months since its launch, over 10 million patients have already been treated.
CM Maryam Nawaz also announced plans to establish state-of-the-art cardiology centres in eight cities: Mianwali, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Jhelum, Sahiwal, Murree, and Layyah.
She praised former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and current Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for their efforts in improving Pakistan’s healthcare system, stating that her government is determined to build on that foundation and ensure healthcare access across Punjab.
