ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, has announced the launch of a modern online system aimed at ensuring the safety and convenience of Pakistani pilgrims.
Under the new system, e-cards with QR codes are being issued to all pilgrims and group organizers. This will allow both families and government authorities to access up-to-date information about each traveller.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry on Friday, the federal minister said that lists of pilgrims traveling to Iran, Iraq, and Syria will be shared in advance with the concerned authorities in those countries. This step, he said, will help eliminate misunderstandings and curb misinformation.
He urged all tour operators and pilgrims to register their complete details on the ministry’s online portal by August 31, 2025, to avoid any names being marked as “incomplete.”
“Our goal is to make every Pakistani’s journey safe and traceable. We also request support from the media and civil society to counter baseless rumors and remove misconceptions,” he said.

Sardar Yousaf stressed that the government prioritizes the welfare of its citizens traveling abroad. “Let us work together to make this digital system a success and show the world that Pakistan is using modern technology for transparent and responsible oversight,” he added.
Referring to his earlier comment mentioning “40,000” pilgrims, the minister clarified that it was not meant to suggest that thousands of Pakistanis are missing abroad. “The reality is that older paper-based records have not yet been fully transferred into our central digital registry,” he explained.
