KARACHI: Sindh Education Department has announced a four-day closure of schools and colleges near Karsaz and Sharea Faisal due to the 12th International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2024.
In an official notice, the department announced that schools and colleges on Sharea Faisal and Habib Ibrahim Road will be closed from November 19 (Tuesday) to November 22 (Friday).
As per department, that the decision to close educational institutions was made to ensure smooth traffic flow during the exhibition, scheduled to be held at the Karachi Expo Center from November 19 to 22.
A day earlier, the Karachi Traffic Police released a detailed traffic diversion plan for the upcoming IDEAS 2024.
Deputy Inspector General Traffic Police Karachi Ahmed Nawaz stated that Sir Shah Muhammad Suleman Road, from Hassan Square to the Stadium, will remain closed from 7 am to 7 pm during the exhibition.
Meanwhile, roads connecting University Road and Stadium Road to the Expo Centre will be closed from November 19 to 22. He added that small vehicles will be permitted on roads around the Expo Centre, while heavy traffic will be restricted.
The DIG stated that roads connected to the Expo Centre, including the Hassan Square Flyover to National Stadium Road, will also remain closed from 7 am to 7 pm.
The police stated that the road from Dalmia Road Stadium Signal to Hassan Square on the right side will be closed, adding that the road from Nipa, University Road, passing by Expo’s left side, will also be closed.
IDEAS 2024: International Defence Exhibition and Seminar
The international exhibition will feature modern defense equipment and weapon systems manufactured by Pakistan and major global companies, showcasing innovations in defense and security technologies.
The exhibition will be organised by the Defence Export Promotion Organisation (DEPO), under the aegis of the Ministry of Defence and Defence Production, aiming to promote Pakistan’s defence industry internationally.
The event will be attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, defence exhibitors, high-level government authorities, diplomats, security analysts, traders, presidents of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry, media representatives, and high-level policymakers.
Focusing on defence production and exports, IDEAS 2024 aligns with the priority sectors identified by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), providing a platform for international partners to showcase their capabilities, the state-run PTV reported.
In IDEAS 2022, 532 companies from 38 countries showcased their defense equipment.
The previous edition of the defense exhibition was attended by 350 delegates from 57 countries, along with high-level delegations led by defense ministers, defense secretaries, and heads of armed forces.
