LAHORE: The Punjab government has officially ended all fees for birth and death registration across the province under the newly implemented Birth and Death Registration Rules 2025.
According to a government spokesperson, no fee will be charged for birth or death registration, and computerized birth and death certificates will also be issued free of cost. This step has been taken on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who said that “identity is a basic right of every citizen” and that the government wants to make public services easier and more accessible.
As part of the new rules:

Birth registration for children up to 7 years of age will be completely free.

Citizens can now register births and deaths without any court decree, even in delayed cases.

A digital birth or death certificate is now required to access many government services.

In this regard, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated that people can now visit their Union Council or Municipal Committee to register children under the age of seven without paying any charges.
Officials added that this move will make the registration process simple and transparent, and help protect the basic rights of citizens through timely and accurate record-keeping.
