ISLAMABAD: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir has been removed from his post. A notification confirming his removal has also been issued.
According to the notification, Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir has been appointed as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Establishment Division.
The reasons for his removal have come to light. According to a private TV channel report, Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir was removed due to slow investigations into boat accidents.
As per the orders of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the investigations were not conducted diligently. The failure to prevent large-scale illegal migration was also a reason for his removal.

The report states that the Ministry of Interior had sent a summary to the prime minister recommending his removal. The Ministry of Interior will now send a summary to the cabinet for the appointment of a new DG FIA.
Reports say the Establishment Division has started shortlisting candidates for the position.
It is worth noting that Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir assumed the role of Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in January last year.
