KARACHI: Karachi is facing extended power outages, with load-shedding lasting 12 to 14 hours in various areas. Residents are struggling with intense heat, leading to widespread discomfort, as per the private tv report.
According to a report, these outages are no longer limited to areas with issues like electricity theft or unpaid bills. Even neighborhoods previously exempt from scheduled power cuts are now affected.
The affected areas include Lyari, Korangi, Landhi, New Karachi, North Karachi, Surjani, Nazimabad, Model Colony, Malir, Qaidabad, FB Area, Jahangir Road, PIB, Machhar Colony, Railway Colony, Maripur, Hawksbay, Khokhrapar, Saudabad, City Railway Colony, and Sultanabad.
These prolonged outages have caused water shortages, the closure of RO plants, and significant challenges for students during exams.
Residents have protested outside K-Electric offices. In Korangi and Landhi, hundreds participated in sit-ins, blocking roads and disrupting traffic.
On I.I. Chundrigar Road, people from City Railway Colony and Sultanabad claimed their areas had no electricity for 48 hours, causing severe traffic jams near the President’s House, Arts Council, and surrounding roads.

Protesters stated that load-shedding has become a daily routine. They reported that maintenance-related outages occur weekly, with power cuts lasting an entire day. Areas that had no outages for five months are now facing daily cuts of 8 to 12 hours. The combination of extreme heat and ongoing exams has worsened the situation.
K-Electric’s spokesperson claimed that power supply remains normal across the city. They stated that 70% of Karachi’s network is exempt from load-shedding, receiving uninterrupted electricity.
The remaining 30% face outages due to electricity theft and unpaid bills, with schedules based on theft and payment trends in those areas.
