PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet has approved a one-year extension of the Sehat Card Plus program and the province-wide life insurance scheme. The cabinet also sanctioned Rs100 million for urgent repairs of the Thall-Parachinar Road, an important route in the tribal district of Kurram.
According to KP Information Adviser Barrister Saif, the decisions were made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. He said the life insurance scheme will cover all citizens across the province without discrimination and will be implemented through the State Life Insurance Corporation. The scheme will cost Rs4.5 billion annually.
Barrister Saif added that under the Sehat Card, families will also be eligible for insurance coverage in case of death during medical treatment. Around 10.5 million families will benefit from the extended health program.
The cabinet also approved the KP Digital Payment and Fintech Strategy 2030, which aims to digitize government payments and simplify financial transactions for the public. The strategy will enhance coordination between the government, fintech companies, and the private sector.
The chief minister lauded the role of law enforcement agencies in restoring peace in Kurram district. The cabinet was briefed on relief and security operations in the area, where helicopters carried out 338 flights, delivered over 29,000 kg of medicines, and transported 9,290 people. A total of 979 illegal bunkers were destroyed.
Officials reported that 627 bunkers were located in Upper Kurram and 352 in Lower Kurram. Security forces recovered 151 heavy weapons including rocket launchers, machine guns, and mortars, along with 18,830 rounds of ammunition and 278 bags of weapons. A total of 86 villages were cleared of illegal arms.

The cabinet also reviewed progress on a Rs9.6 billion road development project for the Thall-Parachinar route. The tendering process is currently underway.
On the issue of financial irregularities in Kohistan, the chief minister welcomed NAB’s action and called for strict action against all those involved. Barrister Saif announced that a high-level inquiry committee will be formed to investigate the matter, and it will be led by the chief minister himself.
