LAHORE: The Punjab government has approved the temporary hiring of 453 doctors for teaching hospitals in 10 major cities due to the current emergency.
According to the details, the recruitment, managed by the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore, includes Medical Officers, Women Medical Officers, Senior Registrars, and Consultants.
In the first phase, 390 Medical Officers and Women Medical Officers, along with 63 Senior Registrars and Consultants, will be placed in hospitals in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Bahawalpur, Sargodha, Sialkot, Narowal, and Rahim Yar Khan.
UHS has set up an online registration portal, with nearly 4,000 doctors applying within a week. UHS will screen and assign eligible candidates.
The doctors will work eight-hour shifts, earning daily payments of Rs8,000 for Medical Officers and Rs10,000 for Senior Registrars and Consultants.

Payments will depend on biometric attendance and be processed through UHS. The initial contract is for one month, with possible extensions. Government employees and postgraduate trainees cannot apply, but private-sector doctors can with employer approval.
Hired doctors will report to the Medical Superintendent of their assigned hospital with their documents. Payments will be sent to their bank accounts. Doctors wishing to leave early must inform the hospital two days in advance.
