KARACHI: The Sindh government has officially announced a public holiday on April 4, 2025, to mark the 46th death anniversary of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, the founder of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
As per the official notification issued by Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, all institutions under the provincial government will remain closed on Friday, April 4, in memory of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.
The notification states that autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local council offices under the provincial government will also stay closed.
All government and semi-government offices in Sindh, including schools, colleges, and universities, will observe the holiday on April 4.
The announcement came in a notification from the Services, General Administration & Coordination Department on March 24, 2025. Chief Secretary Sindh, Asif Hyder Shah, signed the notification, which has been sent to relevant government departments.
On this occasion, the Pakistan Peoples Party will hold a memorial gathering in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh on April 4, where party workers from across the country will participate. This announcement comes shortly after the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, which will end in the province on April 2.

According to an official holiday notification issued by the Provincial Government, all government offices, autonomous bodies, and educational institutions will remain closed in Sindh.

To honor the late leader, President Asif Ali Zardari awarded Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto the Nishan-e-Pakistan, the country’s highest civilian award, on Sunday. The award was received by Bhutto’s daughter, Sanam Bhutto, during a ceremony at the President’s House.
Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who served as Pakistan’s Prime Minister from 1973 to 1977, was executed on April 4, 1979, following a controversial trial.
In other news, the Sindh government has also announced holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr. According to the notification, the holidays will be observed from March 31 to April 2, and government and semi-government offices will remain closed for three days.
Meanwhile, astronomers have predicted that Ramadan will last 29 days this year, with Eid-ul-Fitr likely to be celebrated on March 31. They suggest that the Eid moon could be sighted on the evening of March 30, when it will be 26 hours old, making it clearly visible. If Ramadan lasts 30 days, Eid-ul-Fitr will fall on Tuesday, April 1.
