PM Shehbaz Sharif rules out any changes in the government’s solar energy policy

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday reaffirmed that there would be no changes to the government’s policy and priorities regarding solar energy. He directed the relevant authorities to dispel any misconceptions about the solarization policy by presenting accurate facts and figures.

While presiding over a review meeting on Power Division matters, the prime minister emphasized the need for a prompt resolution of all legal and procedural requirements related to the liquidation of generation companies and urged the acceleration of the privatization process for power distribution companies, according to a statement from the PM Office.

He also announced that a package aimed at reducing electricity tariffs was in the works and would soon be introduced to provide additional relief to the public regarding electricity costs.

Prime Minister Shehbaz instructed the Power Division, Water Resources Division, and Petroleum Division to enhance coordination in order to develop a well-rounded strategy for the energy sector.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Leghari, Advisor to the PM Dr. Taqeer Shah, and other senior government officials. Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema and Advisor to the PM Muhammad Ali participated via video link.
