RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has started an environmental project called ‘Clean and Green Punjab.’ Under this plan, 100 air quality monitoring stations will be set up across the province.
Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb shared the update with the media. She said that 30 air quality monitors have already been installed at a cost of billions of rupees.
Another 30 will be operational by March 31. This is a big increase from just three monitors in previous years. The minister said the government is focused on tackling air pollution with modern systems.
“In Lahore, five mobile and eight fixed monitoring stations are now linked to a satellite-based system that provides hourly air quality data,” she said.

The program will expand to Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi, and Gujranwala. These cities will also get real-time data to help fight pollution quickly.
Fixed monitoring stations will help find pollution hotspots in industrial and urban areas. This will help authorities better control emissions.
In another news, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has launched a fully electric vehicle (EV) bus service. The service will operate 27 electric buses on Lahore’s busiest 21-kilometer route.
The chief minister rode one of the electric buses and inspected its features. Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar briefed her about the service.
The briefing highlighted that the buses are equipped with GPS location recorders, Wi-Fi, UPS ports, and other modern features. Each bus has 30 seats and can carry up to 80 passengers. Special ramps and reserved seats have also been provided for individuals with disabilities.
