KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Mukesh Kumar Chawla has announced that vehicles without the new Ajrak-themed number plates will be prohibited across the province starting April 3, 2025.
As per the report, the announcement was made during an implementation meeting chaired by Chawla.
Meeting was attended by Excise Secretary Muhammad Saleem Rajput, DIG Traffic Police Karachi Ahmed Nawaz, representatives from the National Highway Authority (NHA), Safe City officials, and other relevant officers.
During the meeting, Provincial Minister Chawla received a detailed briefing from Excise Secretary Rajput and DIG Traffic Police Karachi Nawaz.

Chawla said the need for an immediate joint action plan to address fines related to motor vehicle tax violations and traffic rule infractions.
To streamline the process, he proposed setting up counter desks at the Civic Center and Excise Department Facilitation Centers for one-window operations. He also stressed the importance of ensuring timely issuance of new number plates through traffic police checkpoints.
The provincial minister instructed that traffic police personnel should be deployed at road checkpoints to integrate traffic challans and Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) tax collections. He emphasized mutual support between departments for the payment of MVR taxes and traffic challan dues.

Chawla added that the Excise Department would assist the traffic police by maintaining records of outstanding challans. He further stated that vehicle transfers and tax payments should be conditional upon the clearance of pending challans.
He highlighted that through joint efforts and enhanced online systems, pending MVR taxes and traffic challans would be promptly identified, and all dues could be settled from a single point.
Chawla also directed the Sindh Excise Secretary to prepare a proposal on the matter without delay.
