ISLAMABAD: Junaid Akbar from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been elected unopposed as the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee in the National Assembly.
According to reports, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) proposed Junaid Akbar’s name, which was supported by PML-N Senator Afnan Ullah. PTI leaders, including Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Umar Ayub and Senate Opposition Leader Shibli Faraz, also backed Junaid Akbar for the position.
Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said the government had decided to give the Public Accounts Committee chairmanship to the opposition.
After being elected, Junaid Akbar thanked members of both the government and the opposition. He said he would fulfill his responsibilities with the guidance of senior members. He also mentioned that the party nominated him on the instructions of Imran Khan.

Earlier, PTI had sent a list of five names to the government for the position. According to reports, PTI’s Chief Whip Amir Dogar wrote a letter to PML-N’s Chief Whip Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, proposing five candidates. The list included Junaid Akbar, Sheikh Waqas Akram, Umar Ayub Khan, Amir Dogar, and Khawaja Shiraz Mahmood.
