LAHORE: The caretaker government of Punjab has decided to suspend the sentence of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia reference.
The Caretaker Punjab Cabinet approved this sentence suspension through a circular, and Provincial Caretaker Information Minister Amir Mir has confirmed this development.
The request to suspend Nawaz Sharif’s sentence was initiated by the leader himself.
Aamir Mir explained that the caretaker cabinet invoked its constitutional powers to suspend the sentence, and the final decision on the case will rest with the court.
Nawaz Sharif’s sentence has been suspended under Section 401 of the Criminal Procedure Code, granting the government the authority to pardon any convict.
It’s worth noting that even prior to Nawaz Sharif’s departure for London in 2019, his sentence under Section 401 had already been suspended.
