LAHORE: A pilot project to introduce separate lanes for cyclists and motorcyclists on Ferozepur Road in Lahore has begun. The aim is to improve traffic flow, reduce accidents, and ensure commuter safety.
According to a report in a private newspaper, Lahore Development Authority (LDA) officials said the project could be extended to other major roads in Lahore if it proves successful.
The dedicated lanes, covering four kilometers from Kalma Chowk to Lahore Bridge (Qainchi), will be enclosed by low-height concrete walls. LDA Director General Tahir Farooq inspected the site, where LDA Chief Engineer Asrar Saeed briefed him about the work.
The lanes, painted blue and marked with curb stones, will be 12 feet wide. “This will make commuting safer and smoother,” Mr. Saeed said. If the pilot succeeds, similar lanes may be built on Jail Road, The Mall, Multan Road, Wahdat Road, and Canal Road.
