LAHORE: Punjab Home Department introduces PCO facility for prisoners in provincial prisons; SOPs have been released in this regard.
According to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the Punjab Home Department, the PCO facility for prisoners will be available from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Saturday.
The report states that inmates will be allowed to contact blood relatives, spouses, and legal counsel. Each inmate will be permitted to make phone calls for up to 80 minutes per week.
The Interior Department has stated that PCO booths for women, teenagers, and death row inmates will be located within their respective barracks.

In other news, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced plans to introduce Pakistan’s first-ever Minority Card, designed to provide financial assistance to underprivileged members of the minority community.
According to the report, while speaking at a Christmas event at Lahore’s biggest church, House of Prayer, Maryam Nawaz said the Minority Card would be introduced at the beginning of 2025.
She promised to provide as much financial help as possible to the minority community, stressing that they should never have to depend on others for support.
Punjab CM Maryam further expressed, “The state is like a mother, and as your Chief Minister, I am like a mother to you.
A mother never discriminates between her children. In my heart and mind, there is no difference based on religion. Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, and people of all faiths are the pride of my life.”
