Pakistan’s renowned actress and celebrity, Mehwish Hayat, expressed her disapproval of Apple Music’s categorization of Coke Studio Pakistan as ‘Indian Pop Music’ on the platform. Hayat, who has starred in numerous Pakistani movies, including “Baaji” and “Load Wedding,” and made her Hollywood debut, took to Instagram to share her thoughts on the issue.
“Just saw iTunes/Apple Music – music platform classifies our Coke Studio Pakistan as Indian Pop Music. Please, AppleMusic, give us at least this one! Coke Studio is a Pakistani success, and we ought to be acknowledged for it,” she wrote.
Hayat’s fans rallied behind her, praising her for speaking out and calling for Pakistani music to receive its own recognition. One fan described Pakistani pop music as having a unique punch that cannot be replicated by any other music, while another acknowledged Coke Studio’s caliber, recognition, and standards.
The incident has sparked a debate among music enthusiasts, with some calling for Pakistani music to be labeled independently on global music platforms.
