Karachi: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has sped up the process of making two grounded aircraft operational for flight services.
According to sources, work has started to reactivate a Boeing 777 and an Airbus 320 for flight operations.
The Boeing 777 is a large aircraft with 440 seats, and it has been decided to use it for flights to Europe and Hajj operations. This aircraft will also play a key role in the Europe flight operations starting on January 10.
However, after the recent lifting of restrictions, there are concerns that PIA’s Europe flight operations might be affected.
As per media reports, due to alleged negligence and poor performance by PIA’s concerned department, 17 out of 34 aircraft in PIA’s fleet have been grounded, which could disrupt Europe flight services.

Out of 12 Boeing 777s, 7 are grounded. Among the 17 Airbus 320 aircraft, 7 are grounded, and only 2 out of 5 ATR aircraft are currently participating in flight operations.
These aircraft are grounded mainly due to a lack of engines, landing gears, APU, and other spare parts, leading to millions of dollars in losses for PIA. A PIA spokesperson stated that the Boeing 777 aircraft, which will operate flights to Paris, has been prepared and is set to take its first flight on January 10.
