ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has made a major decision regarding sugar mills and sugar dealers, directing the FBR, FIA, and IB to take joint action to prevent tax evasion, undocumented sales, and price hikes on sugar sales.
As per media report, Prime Minister directed that the FBR, IB, and FIA ensure that sales tax evasion is curbed in the sugar sector. With the sugar crushing season starting, 100 percent collection of GST from sugar mills and dealers should be ensured.
The Prime Minister, while deciding to install cameras in sugar mills, stated that this measure will prevent sugar hoarding and maintain a balance in prices.
He also said that strict legal action will be taken against sugar mill owners involved in tax evasion and hoarding.
Prime Minister mentioned that the production process and storage of sugar mills will be monitored through cameras, and payment of sales tax will be ensured.
Shahbaz Sharif emphasized that increase in sugar prices will not be tolerated under any circumstances and directed strict action against the sugar mafia.
PM Shehbaz further stated that similar measures should be taken in other sectors, including steel, cigarettes, cement, and beverages.
