RAWALPINDI: Punjab government has announced the reopening of all educational institutions from Tuesday, November 19, following a significant reduction in smog intensity and an improvement in the air quality index in the Rawalpindi division, as confirmed by a notification issued by the Environment Protection Agency.
According to the notification, all educational institutions in the districts of Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, and Chakwal will reopen as usual from November 19, 2024, and educational activities will resume.
The Commissioner of Rawalpindi had recommended the reopening of educational institutions across the division in view of the improvement in the air quality index, after which this decision was taken.
It should be noted that the Punjab government had announced the closure of government and private secondary and higher secondary educational institutions in 18 districts of the province from November 7 to 17 due to the intensity of smog.

However, later, in view of the worsening smog situation in Punjab, it was announced that the holidays in educational institutions would be extended. The provincial government had announced the closure of educational institutions until November 24.
In this regard, the School Education Department had issued a notification stating that educational institutions would remain closed until November 24.
However, due to the reduction in the intensity of smog in the Rawalpindi division, it has now been decided to reopen all educational institutions from November 19.
