ISLAMABAD: A special traffic route has been designated for Islamabad on September 8, 2024, as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf prepares to demonstrate its strength in the outskirts of the capital city.
Report says, Ahead of the PTI Jalsa, authorities in the twin cities have shared a comprehensive traffic plan for the event scheduled at Sangjani.
Islamabad Traffic Route for PTI Jalsa (Rally) on September 8:
For Islamabad residents, access to the Jalsa will be via Margalla Avenue or Iran Avenue.
Those coming from Rawalpindi should use Dhamial Road or Girja Road to reach either Thalian or Chakri Interchange on the M2 motorway. From there, proceed to the venue via Paswal Road from the AWT Interchange.
Those coming from G.T. Road and Peshawar:
Gujar Khan and Surrounding Areas: Use G.T. Road to Rawat, then take Chakbeli Road to the Chakri Interchange and continue on the M2.
Wah Cantt: Travel via Brahma Jhang Bahtar Interchange on M1, then take AWT Interchange and Paswal Road.
KPK (via M1): Use the AWT Interchange and then Paswal Road to reach the venue.
From Murree: Follow Shahpur Road/Phulgaran Road to Khana Pull, then continue via Lethrar Road, Rawat T Chowk, Chakbeli Road, and Chakri Interchange to join the M2.
The administration clarified that all other routes from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab will remain closed during this period.
Before the meeting of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf on September 8 at Sangjani in Islamabad, the administration has blocked the entrance and exit of the city by placing containers.
Correspondent Mona Khan said that the local administration has closed many important highways by installing containers before the rally.
These locations include Murree-Islamabad Toll Plaza, Islamabad Red Zone, Murree Road, Shamsabad, GT Road DHA Phase One, Khanna Bridge on Expressway, Zero Point, and Faizabad.
Similarly, containers have been placed on the entrance and exit routes of Islamabad, while the roads from Taxila to Islamabad are also closed. However, vehicular movement continues within the city.
Metro bus service has also been completely stopped in Islamabad.
Correspondent Fatima Ali from Lahore reported, with reference to Motorway Police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed, that the motorway from Lahore to Islamabad is open for traffic and there are no obstacles.
Conditional Permission to Rally:
Islamabad’s administration said on Saturday that permission for the rally has been granted with 40 conditions, breaching which “law will come into action.”
“If the SOPs are violated in the meeting of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the law will come into action.”
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon said in a statement on Saturday that the meeting can be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, routes have been set for those coming from all over the country to participate in the rally.
The Islamabad administration says that one of the conditions for PTI to hold the rally is that ‘no anti-state slogans will be raised in the rally.’
Additionally, no one will be allowed to bring weapons into the meeting, and the list of people sitting on the stage must be provided to the administration.
According to Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, the list of those sitting on the stage has not been given to the administration.
A day before the rally, the Islamabad Police said in a statement on X (twitter) that the local police held a high-level meeting on Saturday in which ‘in view of the law and order situation, the security of the entry and exit routes of Islamabad has been improved.
Orders were issued to take important steps regarding construction, diversion of traffic, and providing the best travel facilities to the citizens.’
