Punjab announces new school timings with two weekly holidays

RAWALPINDI: The Punjab School Education Department has released the new timings for government schools across the province.

According to official notification, the new schedule effective from August 15, 2024, there will be two weekly holidays in government schools.

The new schedule comes in the wake of the government’s decision to introduce a five-day work week in public schools, with two holidays a week during the summer holidays, which will now be implemented for the first time since schools reopened.

New Schedule for Students;

The notification from the Punjab School Education Department has carefully arranged the school timings to accommodate single and double-shift schools:

Single Shift School Timings for Students:

  • Monday to Thursday: Classes will start at 8:00 AM and end at 1:30 PM.
  • Friday: 8:00 AM to 12:20 PM.

Double Shift School Hours for Students:

Morning Shift:

  • Monday to Thursday: 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
  • Friday: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Afternoon/Evening Shift:

  • Monday to Thursday: Second shift from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM.
  • Friday: 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

The notification issued specific instructions for teachers and staff, emphasizing the importance of continuing professional development (CPD) and other educational responsibilities.

New Schools Timing for Teacher;

The new schedule for teachers is as follows:

Single Shift School Timings for Teachers:

  • Monday to Thursday: Teachers will be on duty from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
  • Friday: Teachers will be on duty from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM.

Double Shift School Timings for Teachers:

Morning Shift:

  • Monday to Thursday: Teachers will work from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
  • Friday: Work will end at 12:30 PM.

Afternoon/Evening Shift:

  • Monday to Thursday: The second shift for teachers will be from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
  • Friday: Hours for teachers will be from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

It should be noted, teachers are required to give duty once every two weeks on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
