ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has opted to refrain from de-notifying lawmakers elected on reserved seats following the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s suspension of its own and the Peshawar High Court’s orders.
According to sources, the Law Wing has provided its perspective to the Election Commission regarding the Supreme Court’s ruling on reserved seats.
The Law Wing asserted that the Supreme Court did not overturn the Election Commission and Peshawar High Court’s decisions but merely suspended them without explicitly calling for de-notification.
After a brief discussion on the recent apex court ruling, the Election Commission has sought input from relevant authorities.
It is anticipated that the Election Commission may also consult with the Law Ministry before convening a meeting on Monday to review the recommendations of the Law Wing. Until then, the Election Commission has chosen not to de-notify members elected on reserved seats, as per sources.
